Pride: The LGBTQ+ History Series

Short Synopsis: This award-winning docuseries follows filmmaker Mark Kenneth Woods and friends as they travel to different pride celebrations around the globe to learn about LGBTQ+ history and how it can inform our communities going forward.

Long Synopsis (Season 5): This award-winning and four-time Canadian Screen Awards-nominated docuseries follows filmmaker Mark Kenneth Woods and friends as they travel to different pride celebrations around the globe to learn about LGBTQ+ history and how it can inform our communities going forward.

Inspired by the exclusion of LGBTQ+ history growing up, Woods embarks on a worldwide journey to discover how LGBTQ people have lived, loved and persevered over time and how those stories can bridge the gap between our often-divided communities today.

In the show’s 5th season, Woods is joined by previous guest hosts/producers Christian Yves Jones, Kimberly Ho, Saba Ahktar and James Hunter, each bringing a unique perspective to the exploration of our collective queer history. Vancouver’s Christian and Kim travel to pride festivals in Manila, Philippines and Las Vegas, Nevada while Toronto’s Saba and James explore their our city. Meanwhile, Mark travels to pride in Amsterdam, Netherlands, New Orleans, Louisiana and Disability Pride in Chicago, Illinois.

From pre-colonial third genders to queer WWII resistance fighters, the series brings lesser-known, and often surprising, LGBTQ stories to light. While exploring where and how LGBTQ+ people have both struggled and strived in the past, this heartwarming series awakens a brand new sense of “pride” for all members of our community.
